Anyone who has ever used a dating website will tell you that your photo plays a massive part. There are so many people on dating sites nowadays and that number is growing. The best way to make your profile stand out and attract the best dates is with a great photo. Ditch the old snap of you on holiday with your friend cropped out or the badly lit selfie! People have to filter through their potential matches on dating sites somehow, and the majority of people use photos to decide if they want to look at somebody’s profile in more detail.
That’s a common feeling and not one to worry about. It won’t take long before you forget about it and begin to relax in front of the camera. We’re pretty good at making people feel at ease and we don’t start photographing you as soon as we meet. The camera stays away for a few minutes whilst we get to know each other. If you’re still concerned, then we would recommend you bring a friend because then you can just have a chat with them whilst we snap away.

Also, with a few simple editing tricks, you can create some genuinely cool portrait photos for your dating profile. No expensive camera or fun dating photographer! If the photos are of yourself, you are going to need to find a friend with a steady hand and an eye for composition, ideally, to read this. There are a few simple steps to follow to ensure you take a high quality photo. In simple terms, photography is all about light, and the better the quality of light, the better the photo.
Photographers are obsessed with finding good quality light. Flash photography only works well on portraits when the flash-head is taken off the camera. Well on a camera, flash creates the most unflattering light for portraits because the light source is coming from a small area close to the lens. It produces a flat, uneven light that creates deep, hard-edged shadows, often bleaching out the skin tone and giving the subject the highly undesirable red-eye. The easiest way to avoid this is to head outdoors and seek out some good quality natural light.
The easiest and most flattering light to work with is the nice, even light you find on a cloudy day. The clouds act as a giant diffuser, spreading the light evenly across the face, meaning there are no horrible unflattering shadows. Most people think sunny days are the best for portrait photography, when actually it is the most challenging to work in. This will immediately even out the light on the face.

We help hundreds of single people across the UK and New York City find love online by creating a stand-out set of dating photos to use on their online dating profiles. Back in when I decided to quit my job and set up a photography business, I was reading a business book called Screw Work Lets Play, which encourages you to look at your life experiences along with your passions to find your business idea sweet spot.
At the same time, I had a lot of people asking if I was going to try my hand at wedding photography. It came to me that all those experiences could actually come in useful. During that time, I must have viewed hundreds of terrible online dating profile photos and found it very uninspiring. I think the biggest challenge was finding photographers to work with who fit the Hey Saturday brand. I worked really hard creating a brand that attracted hundreds of clients and needed to know that when clients were out on our shoots, they were getting a great service and having a fun experience no matter who their photographer was.
